Advancements in Vinyl Graphics Technology
Advances in
adhesive technology are behind many of the
innovations in vinyl graphics.
For years the popular way to modify a car
surface was the use of non-destructive vinyl
graphics. These graphics can be produced in a
variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, and have
been the standard among professional and
non-professional drivers alike. Recent
innovations in vinyl graphics have made these
stickers easier to both install and remove, as
well as to modify. You no longer need a
professional to assist you.
Advances in adhesive technology are behind many
of the innovations in vinyl graphics.
Previously, vinyl graphics need to be installed
and removed by a professional as the adhesives
required the use of potentially dangerous
chemicals and specialized tools. High heat used
to be needed to remove old vinyl graphics, which
often led to damage to the vehicles finish.
Vinyl products are now easier to both install
and remove. 3M, a major producer of both vinyl
products and adhesives, has developed tools that
can be used by the non-professional to install
their own graphics. Besides tools, the vinyl
itself has a new type of adhesive that makes it
easier to apply and remove.
There are new pressure sensitive adhesives which
allow you to lightly affix your graphic, and
then make adjustment so that it is placed
perfectly. You can adjust the graphic without
harming either the vinyl or your cars surface,
as the adhesive is not fully activated until you
apply firm pressure. Other types of vinyl reduce
air bubbles by allowing air to escape even after
you have applied the graphic.
